Art Quilts

Salish Sea

45×39

This piece is a tribute to the quiet power and layered beauty of our coast. Inspired by early mornings along the shores of the Salish Sea, it captures a fleeting moment where light, land, and sea converge—when the first rays of sunrise ignite the horizon and the poppies, resilient and vibrant, stand as guardians of the shoreline. Through texture, layering and the language of cloth, this piece is both a celebration of the natural beauty and a meditation on the interconnectedness of ecosystems, light and memory.

Three Sisters

32 x 41

This textile art quilt captures a moment of quiet power and transformation—the sun rising over the iconic peaks of the Three Sisters mountain range in the heart of fall. With fabric as my paint and thread as my brush, I aimed to translate the majesty of this landscape into texture, color, and warmth.

Made exclusively with my own hand dyed cotton with over 337,000 stitches of thread play through 3 separate layers (top, top+batting, top+batting+backing) to provide added dimension. Inspired by paintings created by Phee Hudson.

Taiga

38 x 34

The magnificent Amur tiger is the largest big cat species in the world. They are also the world’s most endangered. It is estimated that less than 4,000 are left in the wild. I had the privilege of volunteering at the Edmonton Valley Zoo and Taiga was one of the animals on my shift. This mosaic is made up of over 10,000 tiny 1/4 inch wide pieces of hand cut cotton and thread play.

Through Lucy’s Eye

23 x 17

For 5 amazing years I was blessed to be able to volunteer at the zoo. I cherished the time I was able to spend with the Asian Elephant Lucy. She captured my heart and soul. Unfortunately COVID brought an abrupt and heartbreaking end to my time at the zoo. I wanted to capture the beautiful deep wrinkles in her skin, her lovely freckles and the intelligence and compassion in her eyes. It was juried into the following shows:

  • Juried into the 2021 Canadian Quilt Association (CQA) national show.
  • Best of Quilting in Canada collection exhibited at the New England Quilt Museum (NEQM) in Lowell, Massachusetts, from January 17 to May 9, 2023.

Bird of Jove
